The best of Manhattan's five Ws, this ultra-swank hotel - opened in 2001 - is a sophisticated, 57-floor tower looming over Times Sq. Like the others, it's sceney, with a basement bar, the Whiskey, attracting lines of well-primped locals. You can also sample some jazzy sushi at the Blue Fin restaurant.

The entry on 47th St leads to a waterfall room, with water roaring onto the glass ceiling and down glass pillars on either side. The 7th-floor lobby features a hip bar, with pillows on plush sofas in nooks and illuminated hanging lights with aquatic psychedelic images. Lovingly modern doubles - called 'Wonderful' if below the 31st floor, 'Spectacular' if above - all have loads of light and amazing Midtown skyline views in all directions. Inside, white-tiled entrances lead to rooms with beds covered in soft pillows including removable cushion headboards. They also come with a 27in TV and a DVD player. Glass desks face a full-glass wall/window. For an extra fee, go for the corner 'Urban Suite' - with two plasma TVs, a cool living room with art books and a pull-out sofa. All guests bypass the entry fee to the Whiskey bar downstairs.
