More posh than downtown's hottest hotels, and looming in a new corner building amidst Art Deco office buildings, the 12-story Hotel Giraffe earns its stripes - or rather dots - with sleek, modern rooms and a sunny rooftop area for drinks or tapas.

Most of the 72 rooms have small balconies beyond a translucent maroon curtain that draws attention from the cool grey tones of the walls and furnishings. All rooms come with free wi-fi, flatscreen TV (with stereo and DVD player) and a granite writing desk. A free continental breakfast is served in the airy lobby bar, where complimentary wine and cheese are also served (and piano accompanied) in the evenings. By the beds in most rooms, there's a switch to shut/open the automatic black-out shade that stops light seeping in through the big windows. If a little more space is needed, the corner suites are a good deal, with a pull-out sofa in the living area and a second TV in the bedroom. This great hotel, plus the surrounding restaurants and delis, make this stretch of Park Ave more lively than some of the other sections.
