A five-star hotel of the old school, the Continental offers exquisite period rooms with privileged views over several interesting monuments. The service is top-notch, the location central and the breakfast, mouth watering.

Considered by many to be the most luxurious hotel in Oslo, this independent palace has been owned by the same family for four generations. Impeccable rooms are serviced by people with years of industry experience, and all are furnished with reserved taste. The building occupies a triangle-shaped block and has fine views of the Nationaltheatret, the royal grounds and the Oslofjord. Much of the building dates to 1900, and it shows its age nicely. The recently modernised lobby bar is a great place to watch the crowds pass by, particularly because it is decorated with one of Norway's largest private collections of Munch's lithographs and woodcuts. If you happen to be taking an early flight, the hotel begins serving a light breakfast at 05:00 - though anyone who has experienced the unbelievable buffet that follows this would wince at the thought of missing it.
