Lonely Planet review

Set amid a tiny residential neighbourhood of mansions and embassies, this impressive turn-of-the-century building and its flowering grounds provide a hospitable experience in a quiet corner of Oslo.

The 17 rooms of this lovely bed and breakfast occupy a stately house from the 1910s. It's a three-storey affair with a big slate roof and lots of gables and dormers that make for interesting room dimensions. Most rooms have tall ceilings, white walls, mouldings and collectively share five bathrooms. Bright and airy, several have French doors opening onto fairly spacious balconies. In early summer, those sitting on these balconies or at cafe tables on the terrace will smell the heavy scent of white and purple lilac trees which grow about the property. The breakfast hall contains several old touches, not least a fireplace (still used) with an artful screen depicting figures of owls.
