Named after a tasty bread pudding, 'Mama's full' is an appropriate moniker for this new hostel that will be short on vacancies once word gets around. Clean, friendly and centrally located, Mamallena's legacy is already building among the budget crowd.Whether you're in Bali or Bolivia, Goa or Guatemala, there's always one hostel that sets the standard. In Panama City, it's Mamallena. It's new, so it doesn't have that grotty, grungy feeling of hostels turned hippy squats, and the mattresses in the co-ed dorms are so thick, you might forget you're sleeping in a bunk. The two bathrooms are clean and just enough for when the place is full (18 people). Expect all the services that budget travellers rely on the world over: full kitchen, free Internet, and a bulletin board fat with ride shares, crewing possibilities and other opportunities for adventure and intrigue. There's a book exchange replete with regional guidebooks and an Astroturf terrace where you can sip your complimentary coffee. The vibe is happy, mellow and shared all around in a panoply of languages.
