A modern and well-located high-rise hotel, the Oriental offers fairly good value for money. Rooms are pretty nondescript, but they're perfectly comfortable and come with TV and fridge.
The Oriental is one of several very similar concrete high-rise hotels strung out along Jl Penang. Not the best, but certainly not the worst. The rather dark decor scheme doesn't seem to have been changed in decades, but the rooms themselves are fine, if a little bare and bland. They are mostly of a decent size, and are clean and well maintained. There's an on-site Indian restaurant, a noisy karaoke lounge and a hairdresser. It's a more popular place to stay for Asian businessmen, rather than Western tourists, although the location is excellent.
