Here, rooms shoot for minimalist decor that attempts to echo the exterior brilliance of the building they occupy: the PSFS, an International Style masterwork. Architects swoon over the famed curving lines of the building's base, and lodgers clearly earn more style points than conventioneers in generic digs across the street.

Do you have know-it-all architect friends? If so, a stay within the slick, simple lines of this 1930s skyscraper with its celebrated rooftop sign and radio tower will boost your credibility with them no end. It should also cause them some serious pangs of melancholic envy. Why? This hotel occupies the PSFS building, an International Style masterwork widely considered one of the most important pieces of architecture in the USA. Thankfully, Loew's did an admirable job matching the design and furniture of its 583 guest rooms to the understated beauty of the building itself. Large and minimal, they come with comfortable beds dressed in white linens and massive windows with stunning views from higher floors. There's also an observation deck. Other amenities include a popular (but not recommended) restaurant and a beautiful pool.
