Formerly the Reno Hilton, this landmark high-rise resort seems to carry out everything on a big scale. Perhaps that's why it's located away from the other hotels and casinos on Virginia St - it needs to stand alone. Its 2000 rooms serve a huge percentage of business travellers and conventioneers, but it has plenty of fun amenities for leisure visitors as well. Suites are upscale contemporary, dressed up in muddy shades like a housewares catalogue. Standard rooms don't have the same pizzazz, but the bathrooms are roomy enough to swing a long-handled handbag. Carved light wood furniture and standard issue fabrics are pleasantly bright, and the hotel is in the process of modernizing them to mirror the more muted suites. It's very Vegas-esque in its pursuit of pleasing everyone and has all kinds of nifty on-site activities. An aquatic golf driving range frames the property, and there are 50 lanes of bowling, a spa and a movie theatre indoors.
