The wacky, whimsical, totally over-the-top facade of this establishment looks like no other on the island, and is itself almost a good reason to stay here. The Capri looks as though Disney tried its hand at duplicating French Indochinese architecture. The Capri is fun and eye-catching. The theme is repeated in the reception area and, most engagingly, in the attached restaurant. The rooms, however, are just a bit of a letdown after the grand entrance - they look fairly typical in furnishings and fixtures. Still, everything is very clean and in good working order. Rooms in the front of the building have a sea view, while those at the back enjoy a placid view of the mountains - try to get a room at the front of the building so you can stand on the balcony and be a part of the wild facade. Nearby Surin Beach is one of the island's least visited and is very quiet compared to Patong, Kata and Karon. Swimming can be hazardous - there is a dangerous undertow - so it may be better for sunbathing. It is also lined with the pine-like casuarina trees instead of coconut palms, another reason why it is less popular than other beaches on the island.
