Lonely Planet review

This pleasant and homey HI hostel boasts an unbeatable location, amiable atmosphere and free bagels all day! Dorms and private rooms are well-maintained, as are the common spaces, and there's plenty in this bustling neighborhood to keep adventurous travelers busy.

If you have a thin wallet but want to be at the center of the action, this is the place to lay your head. You're close to shops and markets and within walking distance of dozens of restaurants. The hostel took over a beautiful Victorian building next door, adding several fabulous, impeccably clean dorm rooms to the operation. The original building is now the group lodging center, and a third building (yep, it's big) houses the private rooms. All the rooms have shared baths. Common areas include an ample (though somewhat institutional) kitchen, cozy dining room and living room. Friendly staff provide reliable information, and weekly events deliver Portland's cultural riches right to your doorstep.
