The closest Porto comes to a fashion hotel, the Hotel Eurostar das Artes sits squarely in the city's museum district. All the art seems to have rubbed off, because the completely refurbished hotel definitely has strong aesthetic ambitions.

Rooms are spare but attractive, with sleek wood floors and modern furniture, plus niceties such as in-room wireless Internet access. The palettes tend toward soothing beiges and grays, with every element carefully colour-coordinated. The whole ensemble may not be deluxe, exactly, but it does seem to have just been lifted from the pages of a stylish mid-range furniture catalog. Common areas are also winningly bright and cheerful, including a wooden deck and a breakfast room with floor-to-ceiling windows that open onto an attractive green space. These elements, together with the hotel's competitive pricing and central location, make it great value.
