What a difference a few dollars make. One of Queenstown's older hotels has been transformed into a classy, international joint, and of the global hotel chains in Queenstown, the Novotel's super-central location near the lake is one of the best in town. With a handy location right near the lake, and in close proximity to some of Queenstown's best restaurants and bars, the Novotel is one of the town's better international hotels. Siginifcant investment over recent years has seen a 1980s shell transformed into a slick, modern offering. You'll have to share the hotel with a cavalcade of wide-eyed tour groups, but smart design ensures good privacy in the rooms. Some have lake views while others include vistas of the nearby Queenstown Gardens. The verdant greenery of the gardens is carried through to the Novotel's own private rose gardens, providing a warmth and intimacy usually lacking in big international hotels. The lobby bar and restaurant is low key and relaxing, but the big city lights (that's with a small 'b' - we're in Queenstown after all) are just a short stroll away.
