Lonely Planet review

The Rockford is a handsome and very comfortable low-rise hotel in the northeast corner of the inner city, only a short walk from the attractive parkland flourishing on both sides of the Torrens River. Pre-arrange a late (noon) check out and then forget about time while relaxing in the irresistible rooftop pool.

Sharing the top level of the hotel with a sauna, the pool is heated and welcomes in daylight through an open skylight. Recent refurbishments have seen wi-fi access granted on each floor and the staid decor of some rooms replaced by a fresh new look that mixes creamy tones with dark wood. The spa suites are particularly spacious and have their hot tubs positioned in a tiled corner of the room rather than in the bathroom; however, belly flops into the tub from the bed are not encouraged. Little extras include bathrobes and complimentary movies. Blue, the ground-floor restaurant, is a stylish place to munch seafood, or take your pick from the 24-hour room service menu. Ask about their bed-and-breakfast rates.
