Tucked away off the inland road near the airport, about 3km from Avarua, this hostel is a long-standing favourite for budget travellers. Inside the large main house, the small dorms share a kitchen, bathroom and lounge area; outside there are three self-contained (and rather pokey) A-frame chalets and several poolside units.

Luxury it ain't. The decor's definitely showing its age and some of the rooms are decidedly dingy, but there's usually a lively atmosphere (especially on Friday nights) and the owners are full of useful local info. The poolside units are probably the best-value rooms on the property; the A-frame chalets look quaint and quirky but they're rather disappointing inside. The large communal lounge in the main house is a good place to meet up with your fellow travellers - there's a blackboard outside where daily events are chalked up, and a small room nearby where you can get online for a fee. The hostel's main drawback is the distance from town - the clockwise bus stops at the end of the main drive, but if you want to get into Avarua itself you'll either have to trek over to the coast road to catch the anticlockwise bus, or hire your own scooter.
