Although it may not look very promising from the outside, once you cross the threshold, you enter a grand world where rich textures adorn every surface - from the Oriental rugs spread in the lobby to the drawings and paintings hung in every room.
The Hótel Holt houses the largest private art collection in Iceland. You cannot help but get an eyeful of Icelandic masters during your stay. The rooms here - which may contain paintings, drawings and even sculptures - are all different, with deep, warm tones and rose-coloured carpets. Downstairs the amber-hued library is a handsome spot to escape bad weather, while the bar, with its red leather chairs, original art and flickering fire is also a favourite. Whisky lovers take note: you'll find Iceland's largest collection of single malt whiskys on sale here.
