Lonely Planet review

A perennial favourite with backpackers, the Pop Inn is a laid-back, lively and no frills hostel. It offers a gamut of sleeping options, ranging from rooms with or without en suite bathrooms to six-bed mixed dorms. There are few extras but guests get 15 minutes free internet at a nearby point and discounts at a local laundry.

Bunk down any closer to Termini and you'd be sleeping on the platforms. Ideal for those with an early or late train, this friendly hostel is strong on atmosphere, less so on facilities. There's no kitchen, for example, and communal bathrooms are shared between about three rooms, meaning morning queues. As a general rule the dorms are better value than the 2nd- and 3rd-floor private rooms, which are quite pricey for what they are. On a more positive note, the international English-speaking staff are fun, the mixed dorms (under 35s only) are decent enough, although they can be noisy, and the upbeat mood is infectious. Breakfast, included in the price, is served in a nearby cafe.
