Lonely Planet review

The lobby's slick Maori-inspired ambience and classic Japanese cool is indicative of the accommodation available. Lakefront rooms afford excellent views, as does the club room, a laid-back lounge available exclusively to guests.

The board exterior belies the luxury within, with the indulgence of a full spa and wellness centre at hand in the lower levels. During the evenings the large pool becomes the centrepiece for one of Rotorua's better hotel-based Maori concerts. The Zazu bar is finished with blonde wood and continues the Japanese feel, while the Nikau restaurant serves contemporary New Zealand cuisine with a keen focus on boutique and indigenous produce. Blocks 4 and 5 (which have rooms ending in 4 or 5) have majestic views of the lake, accentuated for business travellers by desks that face onto the water. The conference crowd is well catered for with wi-fi hotspots throughout as well as LAN connections in most rooms. The club room is open to house guests, complete with snacks, large TVs and more impressive vistas.
