Lonely Planet review

It's close quarters in more ways than one at the uber-social, party-hopping Banana Bungalow. Pre-noon beers being slugged by international backpackers, on the gregarious beach-fronting patio, isn't an uncommon sight. Summer, particularly, is high time for good times here.

The main draw is the relaxed but lively atmosphere, where you'll meet people and groups from the world over, most of whom are drawn to this place for the vibrant beach scene. The co-ed dorms are pretty crowded, with 10 to 12 beds apiece, all with a private bathroom. The place is reasonably well kept, but dorms, really, are only as clean as their ever-shifting flow of sandy occupants. Free BBQs are held weekly, and keg nights offer all-you-can-drink for one low price. Also free of charge are tea, coffee and toast in the am and, for your day use, boogie boards, Frisbees, rollerblades and even coolers for your brewskies. Trips to Tijuana happen weekly, and free pick-up services are offered for those staying three nights or more. 'My two-night stay turned into two weeks', isn't a rare sentiment expressed by guests.
