Beach towns aren't typically the domain of the boutique hotel, what with all guests having sandy feet and wet rear ends that ruin the carpet and furniture. That's why this hotel is such a surprisingly delicious morsel of a place that stands out on the condo-ridden strip. After three hurricanes ripped through here in 2005, this property enjoyed a 38 million US dollar renovation that has left it transformed. The richly coloured interior is an ode to patterns: the rooms especially are liberally sprinkled with a devil-may-care mixture of stripes, florals, polka dots and harlequin patterns. Notice the stripes in the hallways? Each and every one of them was painted by hand. (Talk about attention to detail!) The rooms have plenty of modern touches, from 106cm (42inch) flat-screen plasma televisions to contemporary walk-in showers. Their full-service spa specializes in Indonesian treatments, and the outdoor areas take full advantage of their beachside location, with a tiki bar, luscious pool, awning-striped cabanas, alfresco dining and a fire pit.

Don't let all those glitzy mini golf monuments scare you off: Daytona also has plenty of real golfing to get done. There are approximately 20 private courses in the Daytona area, with nary a sphinx or windmill in sight. Options include the 72-hole Indigo Lakes and the municipal Daytona Beach Country Club.
The exterior of the hotel was used as a set in the NASCAR flick Days of Thunder, set in Daytona.
