This soaring, Romanesque-style stone castle was once a train station and is now the city's grandest hotel. The vaulted lobby is dressed in peach and gold with inlaid marble floors and a stained-glass ceiling; rooms are tastefully modern, with flat screen TVs and deep soaking tubs. With a massive clock tower and fortress-like appearance, the Union Station dominates Broadway. Faux train schedules painted behind the reception desk list long-gone trains like the Dixie Flyer, which once passed through Nashville on its way from Chicago to Florida. Though the lobby is 19th-century ornate, the rooms are more contemporary, with aqua-and-chocolate-colored linens and huge bathrooms. Room service meals, available from 06:30 till 23:00, are served on fine china. Guests nibble on free wine and artisan cheeses from 17:00 till 19:00 in the lobby. The entire hotel officially became a historic landmark in 1977.
