The shine of the old-timer Hilton has dulled and it's scruffy in parts, but this hotel remains particularly popular with business travellers for its service and central Jing'an location. Current improvements include a stylish new Ningbo seafood restaurant in the basement. Its location south of thundering West Yan'an Rd doesn't leave the hotel quite as exposed as the Equatorial to the north, and the tower itself is impressive, but the entrance and lobby are drowned in tired brown marble that is calling out either for replacement or concealment under rugs. Spacious standard rooms in this 43-storey tower come with broadband and are serviceable enough. They combine modern styling with some traditional charms, although they require refurbishment and the furniture looks scuffed in parts. Business travellers will appreciate the wireless Internet zone in the lobby and the opportunity to dissolve stress at the excellent fourth-floor spa, equipped with its own bar for health-restoring drinks. Perking up the lobby are attractively-attired staff, orchids and the elegant bar area with its welcoming sofas and evening live jazz sounds.
