The 37-storey Four Seasons is an impressive choice, its lobby decorated with huge artworks, warm golden tones and 5m-tall palm trees. Families are well looked after, with family-oriented activities, children's bathrobes and kiddies' meals on the in-room menu.

Superior rooms are spacious (39 sq m) and elegant, offering a high standard of comfort, although they are all tucked away on the lower levels. For a modest mark-up, upgrade to a deluxe room, situated on higher floors for long views over town, or spoil yourself wandering around the spacious 61 sq m premier rooms. Restaurants include one of the best steakhouses in Shanghai, plus Shanghainese, Cantonese, a poolside lounge and a top floor jazz bar (Jazz 37). Among the facilities is a 24hr cardiovascular fitness room, courses in Taiji and Yoga, indoor pool and spa.
