A link in a sizeable budget chain covering China in the Home Inn, Motel 168 vein, this central branch of Jinjiang Inn has bright, airy doubles with shower rooms, some with pleasant views over parkland on the noisier Fujian Road side.

Aimed squarely at the businessperson on a budget, the undoubted advantage of this admittedly bland Jinjiang Inn branch is the fabulous location. Sights lie at all four points of the compass, as it's in walking distance of the Old Town, the Bund, People's Square, East Nanjing Rd and the French Concession. Facilities in the hotel are meagre and the cheapest rooms are purely functional with water heater/cooler but no wardrobe. Typical of the Chinese-managed budget market, staff can seem awkward with foreign guests, and the usual paltry English is at hand to sow confusion, but otherwise cost-conscious travellers should have little reason to grumble.
