The plush old-fashioned rooms and minimalist executive suites at the Grand Hyatt Hotel disgorge you almost straight on to Orchard Rd. Shopaholics couldn't stay any closer to this capitalism mad strip of boutiques and cavernous malls, unless they slept in the shops themselves.

The ground floor of the Grand Hyatt qualifies as an exclusive shopping and dining complex in itself, offering everything from fine food and aromatic cigars to laser-cut diamonds. The hotel proper has a surprisingly scuffed facade considering its luxury status, but inside it's a different story. The rooms yield beds so comfortable looking that you just want to dive into them, as well as crisp suites with state of the art appliances, and a health club that allows you to bob in a spa before smacking golf balls into a driving net. The 'Grand Deluxe' rooms have a separate bedroom and lounge. It's also worth having a good look at the hotel's interior garden, with its hand-carved pan-Asian features.
