The name here is as literal as it gets: the staff at this stylish, posh hotel are all students in Amsterdam's hospitality school. (And by our experience they're mainly A students.) Originally a 19th-century school, the College has been updated with muted tones, exposed brick and beams, tremendous style and the moddest of mod-cons.

It's hard not to look and feel fab against the cool, dark marble and brick of the hotel's public spaces. Even the open-kitchen restaurant has flair - if the dining hall was this cool where we went to college, we'd have figured out a way not to graduate. The 40 rooms and suites are visions of plush yet restrained design accented with artful touches: flatscreen TVs, air-con, silk throw pillows, cordless phones and the occasional stained-glass window or exposed beam. What's different though, is the in-house concept of educating hospitality students. Students are supervised by professionals and are often eager to please - just be ready for the occasional slacker in need of some serious career counselling. Rooms are roomy, with colours selected from the breakfast menu: coffees and oranges.
