Address: 442 orchard road , Singapore 238879, Singapore Show on map
The Orchard has a much lower profile than its big-brand neighbours on Orchard Rd and can't claim the same levels of luxury that most of these offer. But this is a blessing in disguise, as its rates are very reasonable for what is still a top end hotel, one with individual character no less. The hotel has plenty of idiosyncratic touches that differentiate it from its Orchard Rd rivals. These include the lobby, which does not try to intimidate or overwhelm with designer attitude, but instead serves as a highly sociable meeting place ringed by chatty, open-plan cafes. The iron clocktower is one of many offbeat embellishments here and there's also a gregarious Art Deco-style cocktail bar and a formal, well-regarded Chinese restaurant called Hua Ting. Some touches, however, are a bit too twee to qualify for full appreciation, like the piano that serenades people riding the escalator down into the lobby. The rooms here have a certain business-like style but are more than comfortable enough.
