Lonely Planet review

Lodged in a small side street, only one giant leap from Clarke Quay MRT station, is this gregarious hostel with lashes of individual character. It has a front room that could be mistaken for the lounge of a posh club, framed by dark wood, with a scattering of leather club lounges and an elbow-polished bar.

There's not a great deal of room to move in the quartet of large dorms upstairs, each of which contain over 20 beds, but these modern rooms are well maintained. The dorms don't seem to get much natural light either, but this could suit you if you're an afternoon napper or still pooped from the adventures of the previous night. There's currently only one double room, so if you're interested in this option book it well in advance. The hostel's owner says he's keener on ambience rather than turnover, hence the higher than average dorm prices in exchange for some small-scale class. Summer Tavern is set in a renovated shophouse and has a rooftop area on which to hang out.
