Address: Sekspirova b.B. , Skopje 1000, Macedonia
It's a bit of a hike from the centre of town, but this new establishment offers all you would expect from a good business hotel with the added bonus of tasteful decor, Internet access in every room and small kitchenettes for the long-stayer.The interiors are a symphony of beige and cream - stylish, without being self-consciously so. The rooms are comfortable, elegant and modern, with en suite bathrooms, direct phone lines, heating, air-conditioning and modem ports as standard. Added bonuses include free secure parking and use of the hotel's fitness centre and sauna. Some of the rooms and suites come with kitchenettes. If you're thinking that this all sounds like a generic Western-style business hotel, you'd be spot on. There are no views to be had and nothing remotely Macedonian about the style or furnishings. The only thing typically Macedonian is the friendliness of the staff, who all seem to speak excellent English.

Walk a couple of blocks along the bul Partizanski Odredi towards the centre and you will come across a large ugly concrete structure, fronted by an often waterless fountain which seems to function more as a rubbish receptacle than a decorative device. This is Universal Hall, Skopje's principal concert hall and home to the Jazz Festival every October.
