Although it sits in a slightly grimier part of Sofia's city centre, the Pop nevertheless stands proud on the quiet street. Its dozen rooms are simple modern deals that the friendly staff keep spic-and-span.

It's easy enough to wander south toward Alexander Nevski Cathedral and other Sofia sites from here - booking ahead is crucial, as it's a popular mid-ranger that fills often. If you go, the renovation of the downstairs cafe and outside garden should be done. Breakfast is extra, although they advertise themselves as a B&B.
