Lonely Planet review

Part of the lovely recently reopened home of a famous Bulgarian sculptor, the six-room Red shares its space with a new, contained, quite active Centre for Culture and Debate that attracts local intellects to ponder art, and see performances or screenings in the giant downstairs former studio space. Clean and sparse, and a bit fumbly as a B&B, it nevertheless allows guests a spell in a great historic building. The joltingly red building looks like a church and dates from 1928. Three rooms occupy the first and third (top) floors and follow similar floor schemes. All share a clean bathroom, and have a small kitchen. Breakfast is served (in good weather) on a small rooftop deck. The 1st floor's rooms have higher ceilings, are minimally decorated with antique-style furnishings (wardrobe with mirror, wooden head board), and look onto a nice sitting area with modern hanging lights. Prices range by number of beds. There's an Internet link - if you have a computer. The house definitely stands out on the leafy residential block in Sofia's southeast.
