This sister hotel to the slightly more upscale and smaller Nordic Light has an impressive 9000 litre aquarium in the lobby. Its bar is the famous Icebar, built entirely of ice, where you can throw on a parka and mittens and drink chilled vodka concoctions out of little glasses made of ice.

Built in a former police station, the Nordic Sea is connected to the Nordic Light by tunnel. The nicest of the rooms face a quiet internal courtyard. Each is furnished with typically functional, elegant, clean-lined Scandinavian decor, but with some extra touches of luxury that belie the austerity of the design. There are, for example, the famous Swedish Hästens beds, room service, high-tech climate control and gigantic fluffy towels. There's an in-house massage therapist who will relax you from face to feet, as well as a sauna and mini-gym. And if you don't feel quite Viking-esque enough to brave the low temperatures of the Icebar, there's also a regular, non-freezing lobby bar that's a popular evening destination as well.
