Lonely Planet review

This friendly guesthouse is super central, quirky and comfortable. It came second in a 2005 competition for the best value accommodation anywhere in Benelux (ie Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg). "So will your new fame mean you put up the prices?" I asked the owner. "No way!" he answered. "Next year I want to get first prize!"

This place has oodles of personality and is constantly upgrading. Plans are afoot to move the breakfast room to a new roof terrace which will also have a Jacuzzi as well as a fantastic view of the cathedral. There are seven guest rooms on three floors linked by very steep steps. All have utterly different themed decor, from Old English to the Hippy Room's '70s style. The Asian Room uses lots of pink and green and even has a mosquito net over the high bed. Five rooms have private bathrooms including very neat shower booths, but the Hippy Room shares a bathroom with the White Room. Note that televisions are available but, to save TV-addict guests from themselves, these must be requested.
