Address: Vasagatan 1 , Stockholm 101 24, Sweden Show on map
Located in a modern tower block, with all the usual luxury mod cons. This impressive hotel has up-to-date rooms, with 24-hour room service, wi-fi Internet access, coffee and tea facilities, bathrobes, newspapers and so forth, in fine Swedish style.Walking into the lobby here can be disorienting; the floor is dotted with glowing blue panels that seem to float on nothing and shift precariously under your feet, which must make for some amusing entrances to the reception area. Luckily staff here are much too polite to make fun - they're more likely to sit you down in a cushy red-velvet chair and offer you a beverage and newspaper. The interesting lobby bar is shaped like a stylised Viking longship. There's a well-regarded seafood restaurant attached. The popular SkyBar on the 9th floor offers great views and yet another reason for any potential unsteadiness in navigating those lobby floor lights.

The always-buzzing area around Stockholm's Central Station - also the hub for the underground rail system - is a nexus of restaurants, cafes, shopping malls and retail stores both classy and chintzy. Department stores NK, H&M and Ahlens are all nearby, as is the Sweden House tourist info centre and the urban park Kungsträdgården. It's about as central a location as you can get.
