Lonely Planet review

The M/S Rygerfjord, launched in Bergen in 1950, sailed along the Norwegian coast until it was moored and converted into a floating hostel and hotel some 10 years ago. Next to it is Rygerfjord II, built as a boat hotel in Poland in 1986. The hostel section is rather ordinary, but the public areas, including the restaurant, are very pleasant. The atmosphere is very old-school maritime, particularly in the hotel sections and common rooms. Dark wood lines the floors and accents the walls, and a few well-selected paintings add to the scene. Antique leather chairs and Persian rugs give the hallways and lounges a warm and cosy feel. All told, the hotel and hostel incorporate 70 cabins with 200 beds. There's a breakfast buffet, a restaurant serving reasonably priced lunches and dinners, and free Internet access.
