Fancy a dulcet warble to rouse you from your slumber? Perhaps you prefer to watch nature's alarm clocks in action from a hammock or your deck. Immersed in a lush rainforest with glassy lakes and prolific birdlife, this tranquil retreat is a galaxy away from downtown Suva.Actually, it's only about 12km (7.5mi), but the soothing hush that welcomes you through the gates promises rural respite. Scattered throughout the forested grounds are tidy bunk dorms in timber cottages and a two-storey cabin containing cosy doubles with ceiling fans, plump beds and a chunk of balcony with water views. All share spotless bathrooms. Looking for something a little more intimate? Opt for a stylish bure (thatched hut) with a secluded balcony and lake views, private bathroom and an interior littered with creature comforts. The restaurant here is a drawcard all of its own. Perched on a lakeside veranda, you get a dose of dappled sunlight with your vegetarian curry or seared catch of the day. Leave space in the belly for the breakfast pancakes, which lure Suva locals from far and wide for weekend pig outs.
