There are plenty of places to stay around this part of town - mostly nondescript apartment complexes - but the service at this central hotel really shines and sets it above the rest. Don't expect any fuss if you're a guest with a list of tricky needs. And yes, the location is primo! The rooms rising up inside this 155-room, four-star affair are tastefully decorated - a contemporary palette of claret, charcoal and white - and feature soundproofing, broadband access and even mugs (in case those dinky cups in most hotel rooms just can't hold enough caffeine for you). Superior rooms are located at the front, but if you're not that fussed about where you're going to sleep within the building (there are no views to speak of), then settle for a standard room - they're almost identical. There's a licensed bar and restaurant on-site, but Sydney's 'Little Korea' is just down the road - duck out for some BBQ!

Sydney's Little Korea has evolved almost by accident around the junction of Pitt and Liverpool Sts. One of our favourite eateries here is Sydney Madang (tel: 9264 7010; 371A Pitt St), a backdoor gem down a teensy laneway. Noisy, cramped and chaotic, it's an authentic BBQ joint that's low on design and charisma but high on quality and quantity.
