In many ways, this is among the country's most impressive hotels. The sheer size and sense of limitless space can make you feel like doing a spontaneous inspirational dance along its wider-than life corridors. For a top-end category hotel, it's also among the most reasonably-priced in town.Built on the site of an enormous machine works factory, this hotel's space seems endless. Accordingly, it boasts the city's largest rooms, with suites averaging 45 sq m. The building is split into two: the worthwhile suites are in the eastern half. Each suite is split-level and opens into a bright and airy atrium with a mammoth glass ceiling. Inside are kitchenettes, larger-than-life windows and a cheery marine-flavoured decor, with lots of wood. We suggest a seaside view; the street side (from where you can make out Old Town rooftops) has a double set of windows, keeping out noise and dust from the street, and can be a tad claustrophobic. Not being able to open windows in many rooms is a minus. However, there are lifts everywhere, free wi-fi bathes the entire space and the decor from the bathrooms to the sleek restaurants, is pure eyecandy.

You're just a few minutes' walk to the Old Town, but also from the port where you can sit and watch the boats come in. Right behind the hotel are serene, almost deserted side streets full of charming, old wooden houses.
If you happen to be staring down at manhole covers during your stay in Tallinn and see 'Ilmarine' engraved on one - it was made at the beginning of the 20th century on the site of this hotel.
