A perfect location embellishes this well-crafted and lovingly-furnished hotel, a paean to the long-gone days of Imperial Russia. While the rooms themselves are underwhelming for the price, the lobby and restaurant interiors are among the most remarkable in town. This hotel gets full marks for its restaurant and lobby decor. Despite a curious mix of Art Deco and Russian Imperial styles, the first floor's interior design ideas shine. Few dining halls in Tallinn have been more thoughtfully crafted than this elegant place: hand-painted Khokholma plates imported from Moscow, bronze antique samovars, original Russian art work and a live parrot complete the picture. The standard and deluxe rooms, however, are decidedly ho-hum and unoriginal. The Junior suites too are bland; only the main suites are truly impressive. The presence of bright pink earplugs next to every bed also alerts to another dirty secret: late-night revellers from nearby bars can be a noisy nuisance on summer nights. The bathrooms, mostly in Art Deco black and white, are striking. There's complimentary morning sauna, and many rooms have wi-fi access; all have high-speed connections.

You're less than a minute from Raekoja plats and its bevy of cafes; but for a walk on the wilder side, see what's happening at the von Krahli theatre across the street.
This is the oldest still-working hotel in Tallinn; the original was opened on the spot in 1850.
