Lonely Planet review

The British owners of one of Tallinn's few concept hotels have taken local traditions and folk elements into consideration while adding a healthy dose of Japanese sparseness and quirky eccentricity, all seasoned with unique modern furnishings to create one of the most interesting places to lay your head in the city.

You know you've come to a place that plays by its own rules when humungous, live goldfish stare you down when you walk in. And the experience just gets better. The airy and spacious rooms are filled with natural elements; floors are mainly wooden panels - no carpets anywhere - and the bathroom tiles are sumptuous Indian slate. The so-called Zen rooms have bamboo walls, wooden blinds, rocks, huge pillows, whirlpools and flexible NASA gravity chairs. All rooms have computer monitors for Internet connection plus wi-fi and the crispest, whitest sheets in town. First floor rooms in the main building are larger than higher-level ones, though from the third floor you get a view of Toompea. Rooms facing the courtyard have less traffic noise; the only element that detracts from a true Zen experience. The beautiful cafe and restaurant are experiences in their own right!
