What a delightful place for the true ryokan (inn) experience. You should opt to take at least one traditional meal in the tatami dining room downstairs, but even if you don't, the stunning ambience of homey elegance will satisfy any hunger for a Japanese-style stay.

Staying in Asakusa gives travellers a taste of old-fashioned Tokyo, but staying at this beautiful ryokan virtually transports them to old Edo. All wood blocks and furniture scattered throughout the inn, in fact, date back to the Edo period. The gorgeously maintained tatami rooms are spacious for two people, and all come with modern, Western-style bathrooms. But part of the ryokan experience includes taking a Japanese bath; and there are two traditional-style baths here, one made of fragrant Japanese cypress, and the other of black marble. They are separated by gender but switched regularly, so you have the opportunity to bathe in each. The ryokan is down a quaint little alley that can get a bit noisy with karaoke at night. The friendly ladies running reception speak excellent English.
