'King Eddy', Toronto's oldest grand hotel, was built in 1903 by the city's own architectural prodigy, EJ Lennox. The hotel, which was named after King Edward VII (who gave his royal seal of approval over a century ago) features plush rooms with high ceilings that retain the elegance of the period.

Stay a while in the lobby atrium and admire the marble pillars and baroque plasterwork under the watchful gaze of King Eddy's massive portrait. Standard rooms occupying the lower floors are very reasonably priced. Deluxes have old-fashioned cherry wood furnishings, mahogany beds and marble bathrooms, plus fun stuff like Sony Playstations. Cafe Victoria has gained fame for its Sunday brunch; they also serve proper afternoon tea and pre-theatre meals. Le Fitness will keep you in shape and Nouvelle Maria Spa provides complete rejuvenation with its saunas and whirlpools. Sip honey lemon tea on the spa's outdoor lounge and drift away in the peaceful atmosphere. Valet underground parking (28.00 a day) may be a wise choice as public lots in the area are notorious targets of theft and vandalism.
