Within an austere Victorian red brick with beautiful carved gables and a balcony, this laid-back hostel sits in a snug spot just north of Bloor St. If you like to mingle with a young crowd, you'll enjoy its location near the Annex.

Generously-sized rooms are colourful and often decorated with bright curtains and funky artwork. There are nine rooms in total, but only a few come with private bathrooms so check beforehand. Perks include cable TV, free local calls and access to a full-service kitchen. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate are available around the clock. You'll find plenty to eat in the Annex, where ethnic restaurants and bars (most frequented by students, young professionals and very mature high school students) are plentiful. The nearby Spadina subway station provides access to the Bloor-Danforth and Yonge-University-Spadina lines, so you can go anywhere the subway does.
