This pretty, spick-and-span hotel is at the top of its class. Its great-value rooms - which come in a range, to fit thin or more bulging wallets - are refreshingly decorated, with wall colours ranging from faultless white to lilting lavender; accents include puppets, wall-hangings, mirrorwork and murals.

Here, in one of the 13 marble-floored rooms spread over three floors, immerse yourself in tasteful, cheery local flavor, as a bonus to the expected basic comforts like a good clean bed and working hot shower. Some rooms even have appealing cushioned window seats, on which you can perch to take in some spectacular views of Udaipur, a stunner of a city relentlessly easy on the eyes. The staff at Udai Niwas aim to please, and you'll find many of the conveniences you'll need on site, including Internet, travel and money exchange services, and laundry. Its rooftop Sun & Moon Restaurant offers good grub and unsurprising but nonetheless startlingly lovely views.
