Up a quiet side street just off Valencia's main Plaza del Ayuntamiento, Hostal Moratín is a small, friendly and simple budget option that pulls in mainly tourists but also visiting businessmen.

Don't expect luxury but do anticipate a warm welcome and good value for your euro. The Moratín is run by two genial brothers who take a real pride in their hostal and, despite minimal English, manage to communicate successfully and exuberantly with visitors. Rooms occupy two floors. The brighter, more recently renovated ones are below on the fourth. Bedroom walls are a sunny yellow, their furniture simple and adequate, if dated. In summer they're equipped with freestanding fans. With just 19 bedrooms, the hostal's frequently full, especially if there's one of the frequent business fairs on in town. It's also the accommodation of choice for Busabout, the European budget people mover, who call by three times weekly between April and November. There's public covered parking right next door.
