A party atmosphere reigns at this youthful, brightly-colored hostel. Don't come here if you're looking for zen-like calm - the Samesun perfectly reflects the loud and boisterous Granville Street area it resides in.

In friendly competition with the HI Hostel across the street, the Samesun is where the party animals stay. But that doesn't mean it's not serious about the services and amenities it offers. With a positive and welcoming vibe that starts at its excellent low-cost bar - naughtily called The Beaver - the hostel has recently invested in upgrading its facilities. There's key-pad security access throughout, new mezzanine seating above the bar and an upstairs lounge with internet computers (the common area also has free wi-fi). Some popular features have remained, though, including the funky paint job - expect to see red pipes running along purple walls and dorm doors decorated as flags of the world - and the large, fully-equipped kitchen. Dorm rooms are mercifully small, with four beds in each, and there's an active social events list that includes brewery tours and football games.
