Lonely Planet review

One of the city's flagship hotels, and most deservedly so, the St George enjoys an unforgettable position on the side of the Lycabettus hill. Its location ensures magnificent vistas from many of its rooms, and the hotel's facilities and treatment of guests are top drawer. This is a quiet part of Athens, and the green hillside above is fragrant and a-twitter with birds. Close by are the boutiques of Kolonaki and the funicular to the hill's summit, one of Athens' most memorable locations. The hotel is fully equipped, but has a relaxed, accessible feel, exemplified by its cool lounge bar/bistro and classy rooftop restaurant (with views for days and cheerfully camp decor!). If you're going to stay here, you should spend the extra to secure a room with a view. The standard rooms are well furnished, bright, and comfortable; but they're not large, and face a wall. Other rooms, however, have balconies with glorious perspectives, over the hillside or towards the Acropolis. Even the lower floors are about level with its top, so in many ways it's the best view in town. The only complaint could be about the size; you have to upgrade to a junior suite for any space.
