Coburg is Vienna's latest offering in old-world luxury hotels, and what a hotel it is. Actually, hotel is an understatement - this is a palace that offers accommodation, a royal residence with the epitome of luxury and modern convenience.

The lobby is a grand introduction which highlights rather than hides the original palace foundations, and is complimented by solid stone floors and tall glass walls. A quick exploration of the first floor's eastern wing reveals Bel-étage rooms to rival Schönbrunn; the dazzling Mirrored Hall, with its marble columns and gold inlay, and the sumptuous Yellow Saloon, a dreamy space with yellow silk wallpaper and baroque finesse, are only two of six exceptional saloons. All 35 suites are individually decorated and come with plenty of add-ons, such as a full kitchen, flat-screen TV and freshly cut flowers. Needless to say, authentic room furnishings fill every corner, except in top-floor suites, which are contemporary styled. Space-age parking - a lift transports your car to an underground car park - solves any parking problems and Coburg's restaurant is Michelin-starred.
