This gem of a boutique exudes old-world elegance and culture from every pore without feeling overly posh or stuffy. Each room pays homage to a different writer and contains bookshelves lined with literary classics. At every turn a beautiful rug, huge impressionist-style painting or gorgeous antique comes into view.No expense is spared on the details here. The elegant, nonsmoking restaurant is top notch and there's exquisite furniture in every public space. The conference room, with stunning wood floors, chandeliers and antique mirrors, is fit for a royal ball. As if the rooms weren't impressive enough visually, they even smell good. Rooms are large for a boutique and are equipped with free wi-fi and kettles. The bathrooms lack character but feature nice soaps and possibly the best towels in Lithuania. (Alas, apart from the attractive bedspreads, the linens don't live up to the towels' standards.) The hotel can supply baby beds for kids under three. Note that some of the smaller rooms are more expensive because they have church views or are off the street. But don't worry, you shouldn't be bothered by street noise or anything else at this relaxing oasis.

You can see baroque Bernardine Church and gothic St. Anne's Church from your room. But to truly appreciate this odd coupling - they are basically fused together - you need to go have a poke around. Then cross the nearby bridge into Užupis for a riverside tea or cocktail at Užupio kavine, where you can request a copy of the Užupis constitution in English.
