Novotel tries very hard to be weird and for the most part succeeds. Everything is space-age, from the lobby, to the bathrooms (note the wave-like sink), to the fitness centre. Don't be put off by the astronomical rack rates; you can almost always get a substantial discount here.

Besides being funky, the Vilnius member of this French chain is clean, large (159 rooms), and both child-friendly and wheelchair accessible. There's a small playroom in the lobby and two kids can sleep free of charge on the pull-out sofa in your room. Just make sure they abstain from stealing the wakeboard-like writing table and giving it a whirl down the Neris River. All the rooms here are above the 4th floor and have bathtubs, kettles, free wi-fi, a complimentary In Your Pocket guide and plenty of colourful plastic lamps right out of The Jetsons. Many come with outstanding views of the Cathedral. Parking is charged by the day. If you love random, largely function-less design eccentricities, then this is the place for you. If you want your hotel to embody the spirit of Vilnius, look elsewhere.
