The city's most central budget option has small, no-frills rooms down by the harbour. While the rooms are certainly nothing to write home about, the raft of facilities, prime central location and the youthful, easygoing air of this hostel will ensure a trouble-free experience.

Private rooms come with or without bathroom, while dorms have four to 12 beds and shared facilities. The doubles can get pricey, however: bed linen and towels cost extra, and can add up to a not-so-impressive budget deal (you might want to consider the city's cheaper midrange hotels). If you're a light sleeper, forego the harbour views and opt for a room at the back of the building, as Havnegade can be noisy. You'll probably be more drawn to chilling out in the communal areas, such as the lovely garden (complete with barbecue), basement games room, first-floor TV room, reading nook or sunny yellow breakfast room. There's friendly, knowledgeable staff and all the hostel amenities you could require (Internet, wi-fi, kitchen, pool table, laundry, 24-hour reception), plus a contented bunch of international backpackers and local groups.
